The need for accessible, authoritative, readable, and inexpensive reviews of current developments is one which is (or should be') felt by every physician. This volume is the latest addition to a series entitled "Postgraduate Courses in Pediatrics for the Practicing Physician." This series cannot fail to attract a large and expectant readership in Europe and to stimulate many an American physician to wish his German and French were working tools rather than schoolboy credentials long forgotten.

"Liver Diseases in Children" is a large field to cover in 87 pages! Obviously this is no monograph, nor does it pretend to cover the entire field. Yet I cannot but reflect that if its size and scope were sufficient to satisfy the specialist or the petulant book-reviewer, the very audience for which the book was intended would recoil in terror.

This volume is, therefore, one of transitory, limited value and in the Western
