This book contains 27 reports, with many discussion remarks from a symposium, concerned with the nutrition of premature infants. The subjects discussed are partly from the field of physiology and partly from pathology, for example, digestion and metabolism of prematures, the part played by vitamins, minerals, hormones, immunoglobulins, hygienic feeding and bacteriology, significance of colostrum, human milk, and miscellaneous nutritional formulas. Purely clinical questions are also discussed such as parental fluid therapy, therapy and prevention of rickets, and effects of acidified milk. The problems are elaborated by exact methods. The text is concise but in German. A register of materials and authors can be found at the end of the book. The book can be recommended.
