CLINICAL HISTORY.—This 3-year-old boy fell from a second-story window onto a concrete surface; the point of contact is not known. His mother found him almost immediately after the fall and he was conscious. He was brought to the hospital where swelling of the scalp on the left side was found upon examination. The child refused to walk, but no other abnormalities were found. A single anteroposterior radiograph of the pelvis was made (Fig 1). Radiographs of the skull showed an undisplaced left parietal fracture. The child was sent home, but he returned to the hospital in a week because of pain in the right hip and continued refusal to walk. There was limitation of motion of the right hip, so radiographs of the hips were made in both AP and lateral projections (Fig 2).
