Abstract

The second edition of this text book contains changes and improvements from the original version which, to a great extent, reflect the growth of adolescent medicine. In his preface Dr. Gallagher notes the extraordinary increase and interest in the medical care of adolescents. He again reminds the reader that adolescent medicine should not be construed as a separate medical specialty; it may be a component part of most fields of medicine with emphasis on the patient's rapid physical and emotional growth and the interaction of growth and clinical disease. The concept is clearly followed throughout the book.

The text again contains 30 chapters. Each chapter has been revised somewhat and some from the first edition have been combined. The material on gynecological disorders, for instance, has been organized within a single chapter.
