Designed as a teaching device, this second edition's usefulness to the nursing student is limited. At first glance it seems like a worthwhile tool to assist in learning more about pediatric nursing. However, on closer analysis its deficiencies are those of many textbooks in that the content is stereotyped, regionally orientated in selection of situations, limited in scope, and too theoretically set without enough latitude to gear nursing care to the individual child or offer any stimulation to a student who might want to do further reference readings. Many aspects of the situations used are not geared to all levels of nursing programs, since students in associate degree programs or three-year programs have a limited opportunity to participate in activities such as public health nursing or health teaching of the child or parent.

This workbook's main value is to a student nurse in a hospital where pediatric care is limited
