To the Editor: In the article "Kwashiorkor in the Bronx" by Drs. Taitz and Finberg which appeared in The Journal (112:76, 1966), the statement was made that Kwashiorkor prior to their report had been described in only two patients north of the Rio Grande in the western hemisphere. It should be brought to the authors' attention that in 1961, I reported three cases appearing in Navajo children in Arizona,1 and in my article I made reference to four cases that had been seen in Louisiana.2
Editors of theAmerican Journal of Diseases of Childrenbelieve that pertinent letters-to-the-editor regarding papers published in its pages are not only of interest to subscribers, but also often scientifically valuable in expanding knowledge or in delineating areas of legitimate controversy.
