Early in 1966 a symposium was held in Chicago with the defined purpose of reviewing the current status of information regarding the unique cardiovascular system of the newborn. The participants included a distinguished group of international investigators from many disciplines. The papers read at the Symposium, including the significant charts and tables, are presented in this volume. Pertinent references have been added. The discussion of the papers is presented, apparently unedited, as certain sections are not meaningful without the slides which were presented at the time. Example: "If you take a newborn infant at autopsy, you get a picture of this kind."
