This monograph presents both the adult status of 524 children referred 30 years ago to the Child Guidance Clinic for antisocial behavior and the methods used in studying these patients and a suitable control group. Both are impressively presented: Of the original patients, 90% were located and 82% interviewed. Much collateral information was obtained in rounding out the histories of both patients and controls. The method of study was comprehensive and well organized and the data elegantly presented. This book adds significantly to the literature on the natural history of sociopathic personality. Its major appeal is to scholars interested in studying and defining antisocial behavior. The practicing pediatrician will find little in it of direct relevance to his work with children.
The success of the investigators in obtaining information from many sources—police records, penal systems, probation and parole records, state psychiatric hospitals, the Veterans Administration, Social Security Administration, local welfare
