Abstract

Dr. James' text fills an important void in our educational program, particularly for those being trained under an organ-system-oriented curriculum. I have supplied the text to a number of junior and senior medical students during their elective in pediatric nephrology and have had a uniformly enthusiastic response by the students.

The book is necessarily superficial in dealing with areas such as renal physiology and certain of the disease conditions considered, but even here gives adequate background and reference material for more in depth study by the interested student.

The book is well illustrated by appropriate drawings and photomicrographs which add significantly to understanding.

I feel that the text should also be very useful to physicians in practice who wish to obtain more current and often more in depth understanding of specific renal diseases than is provided by current textbook references.
