This book gives diagnostic and descriptive information about childhood cerebral palsy, deafness, blindness, and autism, simplified for the general reader. It also gives information on the care, management, and education of children with these conditions. In the introduction the authors say the book is directed at, among others, parents; but it is the opinion of these reviewers that the book is too pedagogical, even preachy, for parents. It is written more as a manual for students, for example, special teachers, social workers, practical nurses, hospital attendants, and other paramedical personnel. Unfortunately, it is written from the point of view that the students are none too bright, and thus has a rather old-fashioned, Victorian, didactic tone and point of view. Some of the vocabulary is too British to be readily understood by the American reader.
