Abstract

Collections of selected abstracts of recent pediatric literature help the busy practitioner by reducing the amount of raw material he must scan. Advances in Pediatrics attempts to do more. Each year it presents new concepts and reviews recent data in a series of articles by knowledgeable and experienced authors. Volume 16 for 1969 is expanded in content and scope. It contains 13 articles on topics ranging from the rare "Chronic Granulomatous Disease of Childhood" to the "Newer Viral Exanthems." The article on "The Immunologic Basis of Atopic Disease" by Dr. Elliot F. Ellis particularly appeals to this reviewer because of its clinical orientation and lucid description of current concepts and techniques. Similarly, the article on "Advances in Pediatric Ophthalmology" by Dr. Max Kaplan has a sensible, concise discussion of the relationship of optometric testing and training to learning disabilities and reading problems in children, a topic of great interest and
