This book offers a succinct, accurate, and comprehensive account of the present state of knowledge concerning hematologic disorders which affect the newborn, infants, and children, and provides an extensive bibliography. The latter actually occupies more than one fourth of the entire volume. For readers with little background in hematology, one wonders if it might not have been advantageous to alter this ratio and to provide a little more text material, especially in regard to pathophysiology. However, the descriptions and discussions of various topics are supplemented by good diagrams and reproductions of roentgenograms. The black and white illustrations mostly are good; a number, however, are rather dark, details being obscured thereby. The book is easy to read and the print is very clear. The author has done an excellent job but inflation has played havoc; $23 for a book of less than 500 pages, without a single illustration in color.
