Abstract

For the countless readers of former editions of this basic pediatric text, this new ninth edition contains ample evidence of continuing high quality and broad coverage. New readers (at all levels of medical sophistication) will be well rewarded by its contents.

For the first time Dr. Nelson shares "the editing responsibilities with medical colleagues." Both Dr. Vaughan and Dr. McKay have made major contributions to previous editions of the book. In the opinion of this reviewer, the textbook achieves its goal "to provide in a single volume a synthesis of pediatric knowledge which will be appropriate for the student as an introduction to pediatrics and for the clinician as a useful and competent reference."

Although the latest edition is slightly shorter than its predecessor and has 81 contributors as opposed to 85 previously, there are 27 new contributors. They include six department chairmen and are extremely knowledgeable in their assigned
