Abstract

This book is written for the nonprofessional and as such is well done. Generally, the author writes in a clear, witty, and informative manner. Chapters 1, 2, and 3 provide excellent coverage of the discovery, descriptions, and means of analysis of viruses.

There are some shortcomings from the standpoint of the layman. There is omission of definitions important to rapid understanding of the text, such as virion and microbe, to name just two. The chapter on rabies is too lengthy and tends to be repetitious.

Overall, this book can be recommended for the nonprofessional interested in learning about viruses.
