This book is an excellent summary of patients with renal disease studied by the author during the "presteroid" era from the years 1929-1944 in New York, and from 1944-1952 in Los Angeles. It is an historical book and the author has beautifully summarized the earlier development of pediatric nephrology.
This is by no means a textbook of pediatric nephrology, and may not be of practical use to the practicing pediatrician in terms of current methods of diagnosis and treatment since it lacks the more recent classification of kidney disease as based on renal pathology and immunofluorescent and electron microscopic studies of biopsy material. Current forms of therapy for patients with kidney disease are not discussed in detail. This book summarizes some of the problems associated with infection in patients with kidney disease prior to the penicillins.
