This is the first case of melioidosis in the newborn. The clinical course was indistinguishable from other types of neonatal sepsis. Autopsy findings were similar to those of acute melioidosis in adults. There was no clinical response to antibiotic therapy despite evidence of in vitro sensitivity of the organism.
