This book is the report of proceedings of a conference held at the University of Manchester, England, in June 1967. The objective of the symposium was to gather together experts in the area of the influence of diet on the course of renal failure for the purpose of reviewing the current state of the art. The participants represented a worldwide distribution of physicians, nutritionists, dieticians, and food manufacturers.
The format of the book follows that of the symposium. Formal papers are followed by lively discussions which highlight points of controversy and areas where clinical and experimental data are scanty.
The initial portion of the book deals with the normal protein requirements of man, aberrations of nutritional status which accompany renal failure, and rational dietary regimes for the management of patients with chronic renal failure.
