The purpose of this seminar is to present and evaluate results of recent studies on viral hepatitis. The body of new information which we will summarize and discuss is extensive. Clearly, unless each speaker keeps brevity in mind, we shall fail in reaching our goal. I therefore limit myself to a few remarks.
First and most important, I offer on behalf of the participants our warmest thanks to all the members of the International Children's Centre. It is because of their foresight and labors that we are meeting in this pleasant and stimulating place. To Robert Debré, MD; we must be especially grateful. It was he who more than two years ago sensed the need for a conference of this sort and with his customary energy and enthusiasm initiated the steps which have now led to its realization.
