Abstract

It is a pleasure to greet the second edition of Congenital Abnormalities in Infancy edited by A.P. Norman. I am so impressed by the quality and usefulness of this book that I recommend it for the basic library of every pediatrician; in fact, the section on "Abnormalities of the Central Nervous System" by K.M. Laurence and R. Weeks should be "required" reading not only for pediatricians, but for all health professionals dealing with such children and families.

Norman himself contributes only a brief chapter on "Syndromes Due to Chromosomal Abnormalities"; the other ten chapters include (1) a first-class section by Cedric O. Carter on the "Incidence and Etiology" (of congenital anomalies); (2) the above mentioned chapter on the CNS by Laurence and Weeks; (3) "Abnormalities of the Cardiothoracic System" by R.J.K. Brown; (4) "Abnormalities of the Ear, Nose and Throat" by H.S. Sharp; (5) "Abnormalities of the Eyes and Associated
