Abstract

The second edition of this excellent book is most welcome. In the first edition, the authors produced a comprehensive textbook, and in this, their first revision after six years, they have brought their work up-to-date in a remarkable fashion. The field they deal with is rapidly expanding and it is not surprising therefore that the size of their book has increased by approximately one third.

This edition appears to be better printed, and certainly the figures and photomicrographs are of much better quality. The authors have attempted to reach all those who are interested in hematologic disorders of the newborn. This is a formidable task, yet they have succeeded in producing a book which is valuable as a teaching text for medical students and residents, and is indispensable for the pediatrician or hematologist responsible for the care of the newborn.
