This is the second volume of a two volume work by Prof Jean Bernard and Prof Jacques Ruffié on the subject of geographic hematology. Volume I was concerned with the geographic, biological, and social climates in which certain hematologic disorders and hematologic characteristics are found, while the present volume deals with the modulation of various hematologic characteristics by the interaction of genetic predisposition and environmental factors.

This book, particularly in its untranslated version, probably will have a very limited appeal for pediatricians. Presumably, it will only be of interest to French-reading hematologists or pediatricians who may be interested in the ecology or geography of diseases of the blood. Apart from the rather limited group to whom this book might have appeal, proper credit should be given to the authors for using hematologic illnesses as the basis for discussing a key determinant of all disease, ie, the interaction between environmental factors
