"Day Surgery," an ambulatory surgical program designed to provide high quality medical care, safety, convenience to parent and patient, conservation of hospital facilities, and less expense, is here described. The program has been in operation at Children's Medical Center, Dallas, for four years and now includes over one third of all the patients undergoing surgery there.
The program's general and anesthetic routines are outlined, plus the results of a patient-parent questionnaire. The latter indicates an almost unanimous acceptance of the program by parents, patients, and hospital personnel.
