It is a real pleasure to review the fifth edition of this book. It is what one might expect from the effort of two of our most able and respected authors, each possessed of an excellent background as teacher, clinician, and investigator. Dr. Saul Krugman, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at New York University, School of Medicine, and Dr. Robert Ward, Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Southern California, School of Medicine, have received significant recognition for their contributions to pediatrics.
The material is presented in 33 well-selected chapters covering 494 pages. As the authors indicate, it is not intended to cover the entire range of infectious diseases. The material is well arranged, is easily readable, and the balance between recent pertinent knowledge and its clinical relationship is apparent.
The illustrations, especially the color plates, are well-selected and are of superior quality. The schematic diagrams are
