Abstract

This book is both well organized and timely. The editor, Dr. Myron Winick, was previously professor of pediatrics and nutrition at Cornell Medical School and is presently director of the Institute of Nutrition at Columbia University. He is widely known as an authority on the impact of nutrition on development. In this volume, he has assembled articles from a team of recognized experts in physiological regulatory mechanisms, enzyme development, cell growth, perinatal metabolism of lipids, gastrointestinal development, and the metabolic features of human protein-calorie malnutrition and has produced an authoritative work on nutritional factors affecting developmental processes in mammals. This area is due for a good survey and this volume provides an excellent review of the field that will be of great value and interest to biologists, biochemists, physicians, and others studying development.

Dr. Adolph, a doyen in the field of control mechanisms in physiology, sets the book in perspective
