Abstract

A 14-year-old boy with infectious mononucleosis developed typical hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). No response was noted to heparin sodium therapy but marked improvement occurred with prednisone therapy. To our knowledge, this is the first reported association between these two diseases, and suggests an additional pathogenetic mechanism for HUS.
