Ciba Collection of Medical Illustrations, volume 6, by Dr. Frank Netter is a unique compendium of paintings, illustrations, color diagrams, and sketchings. Each is beautifully and accurately detailed. The consultants used for the written text are leading authorities in their respective fields. The result is immensely impressive, since the area of renal medicine is covered in a concise and accurate manner.
A slight drawback of this volume might be the lack of detail found in the written treatment of each subject. I suspect that this shortcoming was deliberate, since the scope of this volume can only touch highlights in the topics selected for discussion.
One may question the volume's pertinency to the pediatric scene; however, some sections of this text are highly relevant. Section 1 deals with anatomy, structure, and embryology. The latter topic is well illustrated. Section 2 deals with renal physiology in the adult. Unfortunately, much of the
