Sir.—I must advise your readers that for various reasons only Emory University School of Medicine (Drs. Schwartz, Ahman, and Caplan), Centre Hospitalier Universitaire, Université de Sherbrooke (Dr. Lemieux), and Boston Floating Hospital are continuing in the Reye syndrome protocol. We have been joined now by Elizabeth General Hospital (Dr. Grotsky). To date 20 patients collected from two hospitals have been treated according to the terms of the protocol. Using four different therapeutic regimens, there have been eight survivors. As yet there is no evidence that any particular form of treatment is likely to result in survival. The study must be continued to provide statistically valid data relating survival to a particular mode of therapy.
