Sir.—Dr Fine's article, "The Pediatric Practice of the Child Health Associate" in the June 1977 issue of the Journal (131:627-628, 1977) presented a realistic view of the diagnostic abilities of child health associates in ambulatory practice. However, certain statistics in that article deserve updating. He states that "at the present time there are 45 practicing child health associates"..... and that "the average starting salary of a child health associate is $12,500 a year." As of June 1977, the records of the Academy of Child Health Associates indicate that there are 74 practicing child health associates and the starting salaries were considerably higher than the figure stated by Dr Fine, varying somewhat from the public to the private practice sector
