This book consists of a collection of articles presented at a symposium on The Child and Death held at the University of Rochester Medical Center in 1977 and is supplemented by additional contributions in the service of completeness. A timely publication, this volume reflects the developing awareness and interest of health professionals in the management of death as well as illness in children. Because much of the book is concerned with the role and the personal reactions of health professionals, The Health Professional and the Death of Children as a title might better encompass the richness and variety of material in this book.
Most readers will likely choose to read those chapters that are most allied with their specific professional interests. Since each contribution is largely independent of the others, such selective use of the book is feasible. In this regard, the reviewer found especially helpful the chapters by the
