Sir.—In the article "Tympanometry in Acute Otitis Media: Prognostic Implications," which appeared in the March issue of the Journal (1981;135:233-235), Dr Lampe and his colleagues stated that they were unaware of previous reports concerning the presence of high-pressure-peak tympanograms in children with acute otitis media. We have previously reported on this finding,1 which correlates well with a bulging, fiery red, usually painful tympanic membrane (TM).
