In Reply.—I would like to compliment Dr Katz on his fine sense of humor and also to thank him for pointing out our misuse of statistics. The "±39" months refers to the SD rather than the patients' age range. Of course, the bell-shaped curve does not extend beyond the date of birth, and so the point that Dr Katz is making is absolutely correct. While we were working to compress a mass of retrospective data into a comprehensible table, this particular fine point of statistical presentation eluded us.
