This text, by three nephrologists from Albany (NY) Medical College of Union University, with a foreword by Dr Robert Vernier, as its title indicates, is intended to emphasize treatment strategies and is recommended for "students at all levels and will be especially valuable for senior house-officers, fellows in nephrology and practitioners." There are 13 chapters that deal with major issues in pediatric nephrology, eg, nephrotic syndrome, nephritic syndrome, obstruction, and enuresis. The style of the chapters follows a similar outline: a general introduction to the subject being discussed is provided, pathophysiologic mechanisms of the various syndromes are reviewed, histologic classifications are given when appropriate, and then treatment modalities are outlined. At the end of each chapter, there are five to 20 questions over the material presented. The references, numbering from eight to 200, are reasonably recent and certainly adequate.
