Dr Russo has orchestrated a comprehensive textbook that is appropriate for the practicing primary care practitioner who cares for infants, children, and adolescents. It will be of special interest to pediatricians and family physicians and very useful to physicians in training, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
The text fulfills its goal as a broad-based approach to childhood sexuality; it brings together, in one source, information from a variety of disciplines, including gynecology, urology, endocrinology, psychology, and jurisprudence. The reader would have difficulty gleaning the information presented in this book without resorting to many different textbooks on adolescent medicine, gynecology, and other specialties.
This textbook has contributions from six authors. Part 1 addresses normal development of sexual identity and the growth and maturation of the reproductive system. Part 2 deals with variations from normal physical and psychologic sexual development, including aberrant sexual behavior, child sexual abuse, and molestation.
