Sir.—I have just read the brief article dealing with juvenile gouty arthritis.1 The patients presented certainly are interesting, and the material presented leaves little doubt that they probably did have gouty arthritis.
Unfortunately, I think this article contributes very little to the literature because no data are presented that would rule in or out a variety of underlying causes for hyperuricemia during childhood. I feel rather strongly that these two patients should not have been presented until some fairly careful looks had been made to consider the variety of underlying causes for hyperuricemia in childhood.
