Bart is a long-standing member of our Board and an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Denver. He was educated at Yale University, New Haven, Conn, and Cornell Medical College, New York, and completed an internship and residency at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and a fellowship in Psychosomatic Aspects of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado, after which he joined the faculty in 1970. Bart's interests are in general pediatrics, ambulatory and behavioral medicine, child abuse and neglect, the use of the telephone in practice, and parental and patient education and counseling. He has presented extensively at national meetings; is a much sought after lecturer; and has authored more than 100 articles, commentaries, chapters, and books, in addition to producing useful and widely used audiovisual materials. He is married to Mary Cornelius Schmitt; they have four children, David, Elaine, Rebecca, and Michael.
