This 816-page tome, written by two leading pediatric neurosurgeons, represents a notable addition to the pediatric neurology-neurosurgical literature. The authors note that the field of neurologic disorders in childhood has benefited immensely from the advances in basic and clinical neurosciences, particularly brain-imaging techniques, genetics, and advances in surgical treatment. Conditions that were once not amenable to therapy can now either be prevented or corrected. This book summarizes the current state of management in a broad range of neurologic and neurosurgical childhood disorders.

The 13 sections review embryology, developmental disorders, neurocutaneous syndromes, metabolic disorders, congenital tumors, and vascular malformations. An additional review chapter on fetal infections is also included. All chapters emphasize the "basics": developmental anatomy, neuropathology, pertinent neuroradiology, clinical manifestations, and therapy. Numerous computed tomographic (and a few magnetic resonance imaging) head scans are included, as well as appropriate photographs, diagrams, and tables. The topics are all lucidly and carefully
