I AM IMMENSELY touched by the honor of the Ambulatory Pediatric Association's Armstrong Award for from the very beginning of my professional journey, this Association has been my academic home and the members of the Association my academic brothers and sisters. But I am comforted by my understanding that the Award has much more to do with the remarkable group of men and women who work with me at the Harlem Hospital, New York, NY, than it has to do with me personally.

In fact, I found myself more than a trifle anxious, indeed desperate, for a topic for this discourse. As I anxiously ruminated upon the task, I finally seized upon our new young president's inaugural address. For as I remember it, Mr Clinton essentially said, Move over, get out of the way, a new generation is taking over. And as I listened to him, I suddenly realized that
