This collection of more than 100 short articles is taken from various presentations at the Fourth International Symposium on Kawasaki Disease held in Wailea, Hawaii, in December 1991. Articles present original observations of authors' research, most including graphs, tables, or images, and several are supplemented by a short commentary on practical questions by a panel of experts. This inexpensive, readable book provides valuable information for the clinician caring for children with Kawasaki disease. While some basic science information is already dated, the clinical and epidemiologic data are of enduring value.
Subheadings include many aspects of interest on Kawasaki disease: "Epidemiology," "Clinical Problems," "Etiologies," "Animal Models," "Disease Mechanisms," "Pathology," "Cardiac Imaging," "Long-Term Cardiac Follow-Up," "Mechanisms of IVIG [intravenous immunoglobulin] Action," "Decision Making in Therapy," and "Socioeconomic Impact of IVIG Treatment." The basic science sections have the typical problem found in all books on subjects of avid research. They are out-of-date by
