Green et al examined multivariate associations of numerous retrospectively reported childhood adversities (CAs) with first onset of diverse DSM-IV disorders. A variety of CAs had powerful associations with onset of DSM-IV disorders throughout the life course. Little specificity was found for association of particular CAs with particular disorders. These results suggest that prior studies of single CAs overestimated individual effects.
