In response to our recent publication of enhanced performance over time in the pursuit rotor (PR) task by newly abstinent cocaine-dependent subjects, Wiseman and colleagues have asked whether this finding might have been largely because of differences in cigarette smoking between the patients and the control subjects. For example, did a disproportional use of nicotine by the cocaine-dependent subjects produce the enhanced performance during the 45-day period of study?
