JACK BARCHAS, MD, who has served as Editor of the Archives of General Psychiatry since 1994, has decided to step down from that position as of October 1, 2001. Jack has carried on the tradition of greatness for which the ARCHIVES is known, overseeing publication of numerous cutting-edge research papers and many important clinical studies. Through his leadership the ARCHIVES attained an impact factor of 11.8, far above any other psychiatry journal. I want to personally thank Jack for his dedication and hard work. He will be missed not only in his role as editor but also as a member of the Editorial Board of JAMA.
