Abstract

Eugen Bleuler published the first edition of his famous Textbook of Psychiatry in 1911 which he saw through 6 editions. This year the 10th edition appears under the editorship of Manfred Bleuler with the help of Villinger, Scheidegger, Hess, Stransky, and Reisner. Nowhere in the English language is such a well-rounded one-volume textbook to be found. However, the 629 pages are not all useful to the American reader, since the last 60 pages are devoted to German, Austrian, and Swiss law as applied to psychiatry. There is a fairly large index, not including names, but practically no references to the literature. Nevertheless this famous book thoroughly revised is highly recommended.
