Dr. Patton and Dr. Gardner have contributed the first book "especially oriented to the problems of growth disturbance," to the extensive literature on maternal deprivation. Their studies show a marked effect on height-age (from 20% to 65%) and on bone-age (from 20% to 67%). The "weight-ages" were significantly less than height-ages in all cases initially.
The first chapter is devoted to a summary of animal experiments relating to sensory deprivation and its possible relationship to the syndrome of maternal deprivation.
