Recently, 2 articles1,2 have been published in the Archives of Surgery that question the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB). Although a scientific dialogue is essential for the advancement of medical and surgical practice, the dialogue must be balanced and fundamentally sound. These recent publications1,2 fall short of this type of dialogue. Both studies contain various limitations and are contradictory to a preponderance of well-controlled clinical studies recently published in the peer-reviewed literature. Specifically, we would like to call your readers' attention to the following important facts.
