Poem by Jonathan R. Hiatt, MD, read at the editorial board dinner, July 2011 (reproduced with permission)

Friends and colleagues, now we’ve supped,
I beg you please to listen up.
I’d not presume to do a roast,
But simply rise to make a toast.
Although it's not an easy time–
DeAngelis is tough to rhyme.
As I think back to our last meet,
By one huge fact I’m really struck.
When my turn came to rise and greet,
I gloated at my hoop team's luck.
But now shoes lie on other feet.
Alas, the Lakers really aren't very good.
As you all know, ere our last dinner,
On pins and needles we all sat,
To learn what team would be the winner,
Where LeBron would throw his hat.
I guess they’ve not quite struck a balance,
And the Heat have all gone cold.
But if Dr De should take her talents
Anywhere, I’ll be so bold
To lay the best odds one can get—
That's the team on whom to bet.
So hoist ’em up let's party on
And celebrate triumphant reign.
Let caution, judgment, taste be gone
As Tylenol will ease the pain.
And if our bed should be the slammer
There we’ll toast the chief of JAMA.
To Dr Catherine DeAngelis.
