In Reply We thank Lipsett for her thoughtful response to our recent article.1 Our use of the term withdrawal of care was indeed unintentional. We agree that using the terminology withdrawal of life-sustaining therapy or withdrawal of support would have been more appropriate. Going forward, we will use this terminology and encourage our colleagues to do the same. We hope to further prospectively study the many issues surrounding end-of-life care in our complex vascular surgical patients.
