Thyroid Surgery Through the Mouth Might Not Be as Crazy as It Sounds

The course of minimally invasive thyroid surgery in the United States has never run smooth. The goal of these varied techniques (Table) is to move the surgical scar away from the neck to a less conspicuous site. Because these unconventional scars are often cumulatively longer than a standard 4-cm cervical incision, the term minimally invasive has been eschewed in favor of remote access.
