I would like to express my deep appreciation to the members of the New England Surgical Society for the privilege of serving as its president during the past year. The New England surgical community is, in my opinion, the finest in the world, making this office an especially high honor.
I would also like to acknowledge my family, my wife, Pat, and my children and grandchildren for their love and support throughout the years, and my surgical colleagues at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) for their friendship and help for the past 40 years.
