New Treatment for Congenital Dislocation of the Hip.
—Bauer1 believes that congenital dislocation of the hip is due to an abnormal fixation of the fetus in utero. He substantiates this hypothesis by the finding of an asymmetry of the head associated with unilateral dislocations. As there has been a retardation in the development of the acetabulum and the head of the femur owing to the adduction of the legs in utero, the treatment consists of correcting and maintaining the legs in abduction in such a way that motion is still possible.
