Circulatory Arrest During Profound HypothermiaFor Treatment of Complicated Disease of Major Vessels

Arch Surg. 1971;103(2):259-264. doi:10.1001/archsurg.1971.01350080175027

During the past year the technique of profound perfusion hypothermia with total circulatory arrest to treat four patients with complicated large arteriovenous fistulas and pseudoaneurysms of major arteries has been used. These case histories are presented in detail to illustrate the use of this technique with its advantages and disadvantages. Successful management depends on thorough preoperative preparation which must include accurate arteriographic demonstration of all vascular abnormalities and a comprehensive operative plan.
